Orissa Govt sets up committee for rehabilitation
Monday, January 16 2006 15:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: The Orissa Government has set up aministerial committee to formulate a rehabilitation package to be given to people displaced by setting up of new projects in the state, its Steel and Mines minister Padmanabh Behra said here today (Jaan 16,2006).

The Orissa Government has set up the committee with the Industry minister as its chairman to come out with a rehabilitation package, Behra told reporters on the sidelines of the Asian Mining Congress.

To a question, he said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the committee to submit its report within a month.

To another query, he said that the rehabilitation package would be given not only to tribals, but to all displaced persons.

The rehabilitation package would also be given to those displaced for the upcoming POSCO steel plant, he said.

The State Government, he said, had given Rs five lakh compensation and jobs to the families of each of the 12 killed in the clash with police in Kalinganagar in Jajpur district early this month where Tata Steel was setting up a steel plant. The villagers in the area had opposed the project.

Apart from this, the Centre has also given another Rs five lakh compensation to each of the families, he said.
