CPI asks UPA, Manmohan to explain Bofors pay off
Monday, January 16 2006 15:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: With Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi claiming that CBI has found no proof to link him with the Bofors pay off case, Communist Party of India (CPI) today (Jan 16, 2006) said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should explain the situation which is getting 'murkier'.

"The situation is getting murkier. It is for the government and the Prime Minister to explain to the nation as to how the decision to defreeze Quattrocchi's two accounts was taken", CPI National Secretary D Raja said.

Noting that the CBI had said there was a case and a red alert against Quattrocchi, he said, "Why should we take his (Quattrocchi) words. He is an accused in the case".

Referring to Law Minister H R Bhardwaj's contention that there was nothing to link Quattrocchi's bank accounts with the Bofors pay off, Raja said that the Prime Minister should explain the situation.
