Stalemate in Toyota Motor continues, Govt to step in Monday, January 16 2006 18:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
The reconciliatory efforts between Toyota Kirloskar Motor Management and its employees union today (Jan 16, 2006) failed to make any headway again; now, it appears that the Government may have to step in to end the stalemate.
"Talks failed", spokesmen for the company and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Employees Union said separately, after a meeting with Deputy Labour Commissioner.
A company spokesman said TKM does not want to compromise on discipline, and would consider lifting the lock-out when peace returns and normalcy is restored at the plant at Bidadi on Bangalore outskirts.
The spokesman said the company is awaiting the Deputy Labour Commissioner to file a report to the Government and Government's response to it.
A Union official sought to blame the management for the stalemate, alleging that company was not ready to accept suggestions on lifting the lock-out and keeping the dismissal of three workers in abeyance till the court's decision on the matter.
"The ball is now in the Government's court", said R Ravi, Joint Secretary of the Union. According to him, the Deputy Labour Commissioner is filing 'talks failed' report to the Government.
The employees went on a flash strike on January six in protest against the dismissal of three employees. The management declared an indefinite lock-out on January eight.
