Nauchandi Exp clash: UP health services paralysed
Tuesday, January 17 2006 15:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Lucknow: Health services remained paralysed in the state today (Jan 17, 2006) as junior doctors continued their strike in protest against the beating up of their colleagues allegedly by police recruits in Nauchandi Express train near Moradabad.

Junior doctors in all the seven medical colleges in UP, who began the strike yesterday took out protest marches today demanding dismissal of the police personnel involved in the incident on Sunday night. In the state capital, even emergency services were hampered as doctors boycotted work and participated in demonstrations.

Doctors of Gorakhpur Medical College blocked road traffic on Gorakhpur-Maharajganj state highway demanding stern action against the erring cops.

Official sources here said that the probe into the incident had begun and efforts were on to identify the police personnel who had joined their colleagues when Nauchandi Express reached Moradabad railway station.

The state government had yesterday suspended six GRP personnel, including an SHO, in this connection.

At least nine medicos and eight police recruits suffered injuries in the clash inside the train following an altercation over occupying of reserved berths by the personnel.
