Mulayam surrenders Govt bungalow, lashes out at Cong Wednesday, January 18 2006 16:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Jan 18, 2006) surrendered the government bungalow allotted to him as an MP and launched a veiled attack on Congress President Sonia Gandhi, announcing that Samajwadi Party's (SP) National Executive would be meeting by month end to decide its future strategy.
He also told Left Parties, which had spurned his offer for leading a non-Congress alternative at the Centre, that sooner or later they would realise the need for such an alternative and insisted that a third front would be in the interest of the nation.
"Everybody knows whose government the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is and I would not like to repeat it again and again", he told reporters when asked whether Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, whom his party had accused of being responsible for the telephone tapping of SP leaders, was also behind the move to 'oust' him from the house.
Yadav, who is the President of the Samajwadi Party, alleged that his party was being singled out by the Congress-led Coalition at the Centre but chose to ignore questions on tapping controversy.
At the same time he said, his party was not for "any confrontation with anybody on the issue (vacating the house). We are common people living on roads and will go to people to tell them what treatment was being meted out to Samajwadi party leaders".
He also circulated a copy of the order by Directorate of Estates, Nirman Bhawan, asking Samajwadi Party to pay Rs 1,90,439 per month for retaining the bungalow.
