No bias in eviction orders, says Centre to Mulayam
Thursday, January 19 2006 14:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Centre today (Jan 19, 2006) rebutted UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's allegations of political bias in its house eviction orders, saying nobody using government accommodation illegitimately has been spared while issuing vacation notices.

At an editors' conference here, Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy also ruled out allowing government houses in Delhi to every Chief Minister.

Also, Reddy said his Ministry had received no request from the Samajwadi Party chief to allow him to use the Krishna Menon Marg house, allotted to him as Defence Minister in 1996, for security reasons. "We have received no such petition from him," Reddy said in response to Singh's claims that the Centre could have extended his housing allotment on security grounds.

Only three people, former Punjab Police chief K P S Gill, All India Anti-Terrorist Front chief M S Bitta and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi - have been allotted government houses in Delhi for security reasons, Reddy said.

"He (Yadav) has been ill-advised, some elements must have misguided him. We have written (eviction) letters to all VIPs," the Union Minister said, referring to what the UP Chief Minister yesterday claimed was a long list of people allowed to use government houses illegally.

Reddy said the Centre was answerable to the Supreme Court on whose directions it has served eviction notices.

While vacating his Krishna Menon Marg house in Delhi since 1996, the SP leader had accused the UPA government of being prejudiced against his party.
