Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh yesterday (Jan 18, 2006) night met governor T N Chaturvedi and claimed that his Government was intact after former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's son Kumaraswamy led a revolt withdrawing support of 46 MLAs to the Congress- Janata Dal (JD) Secular (S) coalition ministry.
Emerging out of discussions he had with the governor along with senior ministers, Singh told reporters that the latter had assured him that he would act according to the
Constitution.
Asked if he would recommend dissolution of the assembly, Singh said the question did not arise now.
The governor would address the joint session of the legislature today (Jan 19,2006), he said.
Asked if he had sought time to prove his majority in the assembly, Singh said, "That is the speaker's job".
"Just because they have given a letter, will it (new coalition government) happen", he said, maintaining that there was no threat to his Government and it was intact.
Deputy Chief Minister and senior JDS leader M P Prakash said they explained the situation to the governor who had assured them that he would act according to the provisions of the Constitution.
He said they also told the governor about the letter written to him by the JDS supremo and former Prime Minister H D Devegowda not to act on the basis of the letter submitted by the JDS faction led by Kumaraswamy.
