Thursday, January 19 2006 14:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Patna: Under fire from the opposition over recent surge in crimes particularly the incidents of kidnapping for ransom, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today (Jan 19,2006) directed the state police to ensure cancellation of the bail of criminals.

During a six-hour long meeting with top police brass of the state, including state police Chief Ashish Ranjan Sinha and Superintendents of Police of all the districts, to review law and order in the wake of the recent spurt in kidnapping cases, Kumar directed them to approach the courts for cancellation of bail and speed up the trial of criminals who commit crime after being enlarged on bail.

Sinha and Additional Director General of Police (headquarters) Abhyanand told reporters that the CM asked the police to establish 'superiority' over criminals by adopting pro-active approach.

The Chief minister told the policemen to be a partner in Government's development efforts by providing security to people engaged in developmental activities. He laid special emphasis on providing security to the staff of central agencies executing the East-West corridor mega road project and other schemes.
