Gawli asked to undergo lie detector test on Jan 23 Thursday, January 19 2006 15:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has been asked by Police to undergo a lie detector test on January 23 at Bangalore, in connection with the 'supari' (contract) allegedly given by starlet Preeti Jain to a former Gawli aide to eliminate film producer Madhukar Bhandarkar.
Gawli was served a notice by Police yesterday night to present himself at Forensic Science Laboratory, Bangalore to undergo a lie detector test, police sources said today.
Mumbai police hopes to find out if Gawli has any link with the murder plot as was found in the evidences collected by them, the sources said.
The Chinchpopkli MLA has moved the Supreme Court against the move by Agripada Police to make him undergo scientific tests that include the lie detector test, brain mapping and narco-analysis tests.
The apex court has prevented Agripada police from making Gawli undergo the brain mapping test, but senior Mumbai police officials said that no such restriction has been put by the Supreme Court on lie detector test, and hence the notice was served on him.
Police suspect Gawli's role in the alleged plot by Jain to kill Bhandarkar, bared in May this year.
Jain, who has charged Bhandarkar of sexually exploiting her, had allegedly hired a former aide of Gawli, Naresh Pardesi to eliminate Bhandarkar and even paid some money for the purpose, police has alleged.
The Agripada Police have arrested Jain, Pardesi and three more persons so far in the case and suspect Gawli to be also involved in the plot, a charge Gawli has denied several times before police and court.
