Salem remanded to police custody till February 2

Mumbai: A special court today (Jan 19, 2006) remanded extradited gangster Abu Salem to police custody till February two in a case of murder of Ajit Dewani, former personal assistant of Bollywood actress Manish Koirla.

Salem was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch yesterday for his alleged complicity in the murder of Diwani.

He was produced before Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge Abhay Tipse.

Salem was earlier sent to police custody in the 1993 serial bomb blast case and also in connection with the builder Pradeep Jain murder case of 1995.

On June 30, 2001, Dewani was killed by allegedly two gunmen of Salem outside his office in Oshiwara after he allegedly failed to pay extortion money to the gangster.
