Army chief hopes Pak lives to its promise on terror Friday, January 20 2006 16:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Maintaining that infiltration to Jammu and Kashmir has been 'contained to a great extent', Army Chief General J J Singh today (Jan 20, 2006) hoped that Pakistan would live up to its promises to completely stop cross border terrorism.
"Their (Pakistan) leadership has assured us. We want to see it in the ground. We hope that they would live up to their promises," General Singh told reporters here when asked whether Pakistan was taking steps to stop cross border terrorism, on the sideline of a function organised by the NCC.
The Army Chief said infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir had been 'contained to a great extent' but still there were certain areas through which militants were entering into India.
"We have to tighten the border further so that unauthorised infiltration does not take place," he said.
General Singh said India was establishing good relations with its neighbouring countries and hoped that if any infiltration was taking place from any country, it (the country concerned) would take steps to stop it.
When asked to comment on the recent terrorists attack in the Indian Institute of Science, he said the Union Home Ministry and the State Government were investigating the matter and taking proper steps.
General Singh said the Joint Doctrine of the defence forces was in the final stages of preparation and would be implemented soon.
