Gowda hold parleys with seniors; fails to decide Friday, January 20 2006 15:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Struggling to save his party and bring his rebel son to reconciliation mood, Janata Dal (JD) Secular (S) supremo H D Devegowda today (Jan 20,2006) held consultations with senior leaders of the party to find a solution to the 'revolt' that has put a question mark on the survival of the Congress-JDS ministry.
Deputy Chief Minister M P Prakash, Finance Minister P G RSindhia, senior leader M Rajashekhara Murthy and Higher Education minister D Manjunath attended the two-hour-long session which remained inconclusive and could not arrive at a decision.
Emerging from the meeting, Prakash told reporters that the leaders debated on three options-- whether to continue with the Congres led coalition, opt for a parallel Government formation or to face a mid-term election to the state
assembly.
"No decision was taken at the meeting", he said.
Sindhia however said the party was firm on not aligning with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In a change of stand by the party, Sindhia said JDS did not contemplate any disciplinary action against Kumaraswamy and approved his action of holding JDS legislators in a place.
"At this stage, actions of Kumaraswamy cannot be viewed as indiscipline. He has kept the MLAs to save the party and prevent horse trading by Congress", he said.
