Tapping case: HC stops police from parallel probe

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today (Jan 20, 2006) restrained till January 25 the Uttar Pradesh Police from interfering in any manner in the ongoing investigations launched by the Delhi police in the sensational tapping of phones of Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh.

The interim order came from Justice R C Jain on two separate petitions filed by Delhi Police and accused Anurag Singh seeking to restrain the Uttar Pradesh police from going ahead with a parallel probe into the matter.

The court also recorded an undertaking from the Uttar Pradesh counsel that the state police would not arrest Anurag Singh who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

The court posted the matter for further hearing on January 25 as the Supreme Court is expected to decide Amar Singh's petition in this regard on January 23.
