Nuclear proposals should be made public, says Left
Friday, January 20 2006 11:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Observing that India's proposals to separate civilian and military nuclear facilities had been made public in the US, the Communist Party of India (CPI )Marxist (M) yesterday (Jan 19,2006)demanded that the Government immediately make them public here as Indo-US parleys were being held on the issue.

Maintaining that the Indian proposals had been circulated to representatives of the US Senate, the House of Representatives and think-tanks, the party Politburo said, "In contrast, the proposals have not been made public in India."

"There is no information whether the US is taking the steps it had to take as part of the reciprocal terms in the agreement. There are reports that the US has set out further conditions and made new demands beyond the terms of the July 18, 2005, agreement arrived at when the Prime Minister visited Washington," it said.

The party said it was surprising that on such a vital issue, the government has sought to keep political parties, Parliament and the nuclear scientific community 'in the dark' and demanded that the proposals be made public immediately.
