Cong trying to create constitutional crisis: BJP Saturday, January 21 2006 15:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Karnataka unit today (Jan 21, 2006) charged that the Congress has hatched a conspiracy to create a constitutional crisis by involving the office of the Governor and Speaker to prevent formation of government by rebel JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy with the support of the party.
With six more days to go for the beleaguered Chief Minister N Dharam Singh to face a trial of strength on the floor of the house, Opposition BJP leader B S Yediyurappa charged at a press conference here that the Congress was indulging in various acts to 'cling to power' and vowed the 'new coalition partners' would defeat such designs.
"BJP and JDS have demonstrated their full strength before the Governor T N Chaturvedi on January 18 and pleaded with him to invite Kumaraswamy to form the government", he said.
The governor is convinced about the strength of BJP and JDS and dropped hints that he would ask Singh to seek vote of confidence at an early date, he said
But, he said, "I am amazed to see that governor gave such a long time to the chief minister to prove his majority, which is uncalled for".
He urged the Governor to direct the Chief Secretary not to implement the decisions of the Singh government which he claimed was a on a 'file clearance drive'.
Since the Singh government has been reduced to a minority, it cannot take decisions now, he claimed.
