Nepal: Pro-democracy protestors clash with police Saturday, January 21 2006 15:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kathmandu:
Over 100 pro-democracy protestors were today (Jan 21,2006) arrested after they clashed with Nepalese police which used batons and tear gas to break their demonstrations in several parts of the capital.
Heavily armed Nepalese police prevented protestors from assembling in the main areas of Kathmandu.
The army also cordoned off the main demonstration venue at Durbar marg following which agitators numbered in thousands started shouting anti-King and pro-democracy
slogans.
Security personnel then swung in to action andarrested over 100 demonstrators, who were shouting slogans like 'King Gyanendra Quit Power', 'Restore Multiparty
Democracy', 'Boycott Deceptive Municipal Polls', 'End State Terrorism', 'Nepalese People will not bow down'.
Those arrested include Nepali Congress former Parliament member Eknath Bhat, NC Kathmandu Municipality President Surendra Mishra and United Left Front Leader
Prabhunarayan Chaudhari.
