Cong to aggressively confront Left in assembly polls Sunday, January 22 2006 11:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Hyderabad:
Under attack from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for joining hands with Marxists to retain power at the Center, Congress today (Jan 22,2006) said there was no question of any understanding or compromise in Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura, declaring the party would aggressively confront and fight the Left in the three states.
At the same time, the party, in its draft political resolution, rejected the idea of a grand alliance of non-Left parties, including BJP, saying the Congress welcomes an
alliance with any party that has no truck direct or indirect with the saffron party.
Assembly polls are scheduled this year in West Bengal and Kerala where the Congress is traditional opponent of the Marxists.
The Congress, the draft resolution said, was conscious of the fact that in some states its main political opponents are parties that are supporting it at the Center.
