Delimitation of electorates to be completed by July
Monday, January 23 2006 15:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The delimitation of electoral constituencies in all states and Union Territories is expected to be completed by July 31 this year.

The Delimitation Commission headed by Justice Kuldip Singh has completed its work in Goa, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala and Pondicherry and given its final orders to the Government.

The work in Rajasthan, Sikkim and West Bengal is now about to be completed, an official release said.

The Commission was initially given a term of two years to complete the task but due to factors such as amendment in the Delimitation Act 2002 replacing the 1991 census with that of 2001 census as base year and dissolution of the 13th Lok Sabha, the term of the panel was extended twice.

The present term of the Commission is upto July 31 this year and the 'delimitation work is expected to be completed within the stipulated time', the release added.
