Toyota Motors employees agree to resume work tomorrow Monday, January 23 2006 15:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
The Toyota-Kirloskar Employees Union today (Jan 23, 2006) said that its members would turn up for duty tomorrow, albeit without the 'good conduct' undertaking insisted upon by the management.
The decision was taken at the Union general body meeting here, keeping in view the government prohibiting the strike since it was a public utility service and referring the matter to the third additional labour court, a union leader said.
"We have decided to go to work in keeping with the government's order, however, we will not tender any good conduct undertaking as insisted upon by the management", R Ravi, Joint Secretary said, after the meeting attended by over 1250 union members.
"The workers would travel to work in a company vehicle and turn up at the gate. If we are not permitted inside sans the undertaking, we will stage a sit-in at the gate", he said
However, according to A R Shankar, General Manager, Corporate Planning, TKM, the management would insist on an undertaking. "There is no modification in this decision".
Though both the union and management were yet to receive the official copy of the government order, Ravi claimed that the management was well aware of such an order coming through and hence had decided to lift out the lockout on January 21.
According Labour Commissioner K S Manjunath, it is between the management and union to decide on the issue of undertaking. "As far as we are concerned the strike has been prohibited and the matter referred to the Third Additional Labour court", he said.
