Security beefed up in Bangalore for Republic Day

Bangalore: Over 2000 police personnel have been posted in and around the city and at all vital installations as part of the beefed-up security measures on the eve of Republic Day tomorrow (Jan 26,2006).

Around 1500 police personnel, six deputy commissioners of police, 17 Assistant commissioners of police and 40 inspectors have been posted in around the parade ground, the venue of the main republic day celebrations in the city, Additional Commissioner of Police, H C Kishore Chandra said here today (Jan 25,2006).

In addition to this, squads of the of Karnataka State Reserve Police Force, Quick Reaction Teams and commandos have be deployed to thwart any untoward incident.

In view of the recent terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science, all the key installations in the city will also be under the hawk-eyed vigil of the police, he said.

"Though there were no specific inputs on any planned attack, the police machinery in the city were totally geared to disrupt any subversive activities," he said.

In the meanwhile, police have issued instructions to the general public against carrying any inflammable items, bags and other such things into the parade ground. Spectators would be subjected to police checking before gaining entry into the grounds, sources said.
