The progress in preparing for publication of the final electoral rolls in West Bengal was today (Jan 27, 2006) reviewed by Deputy Election Commissioner R Balakrishnan during a day-long meeting with the Chief electoral officer and his department's officials here.
The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on February 15.
Balakrishnan also held a meeting with district magistrates and additional district magistrates about the steps to correct voters' lists as also law and order aspects.
Balakrishnan's meeting came close on the heels of the recent critical observation of the Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon about irregularities in voters' lists that he had
gathered from the reports of the 19 EC observers after their visit to West BEngal.
Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen had recently met the CEC in Delhi and reportedly submitted a report about the progress on final electoral rolls, his department sources
said.
