Yechury supports Buta's advice on Bihar assembly Friday, January 27 2006 18:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Coming out in support of former Governor Buta Singh's recommendation for dissolution of the Bihar Assembly, Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) leader Sitaram Yechury today (Jan 27, 2006) said therecould have been no other decision as no party was in a position to form government and neither had staked claim.
"When Buta Singh called for dissolution of the House, no single party was in a position to form the government. Rabri Devi did not have the majority to form government and no one else had gone to the Governor to stake claim," he told 'Zee News' in an interview.
According to a release issued by the TV news channel, Yechury said there was no point in letting someone form the government and then decide majority on the floor of the House.
Asked whether the Union Cabinet and the Prime Minister were totally blameless on the issue, Yechury was quoted as saying that there was no question of blaming anyone.
"Given the contents of the Governor's report, there was no other decision that could have been handed out," he said.
On the phone-tapping issue, the CPI(M) leader was quoted as saying it should be investigated at the highest level.
Maintaining that the Left had been against privatisation of the telecom sector, he said now that private firms have been allowed, adequate laws should be in place to safeguard
consumers' interests.
In the interview, Yechury reiterated the party's stand on FDI and other issues like airport privatisation, on which he suggested that the Airports Authority or even Delhi Metro
could be given the modernisation job instead of private parties.
