New Delhi: Expressing serious concern over the recent pronouncements by American officials on the Iran vote and the Indo-US nuclear deal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh today (Jan 28,2006) said it will not accept any 'compromise' on national interests and asked the Prime Minister to call an all-part meeting to evolve a consensus on these issues.

"The recent US statements including that of US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice indicate an overbearing attitude of the USA which threatens to upset the environment of cordial bilateral relationship," he told reporters here.

"Ambassador Mulford's utterances were not only unbecoming of a diplomat but an act of discourtesy of the host nation. The tenor of the statement was threatening. A more explicit statement by Rice has linked India's vote on Iran with the July 18 Indo-US nuclear deal," Singh said.

He alleged that assurances given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Parliament after his return from the US has been 'negated' by recent developments.

Referring to media reports that Washington has handed over an Aide memoire on the oil field acquisition by India in Syria, he said "The BJP wants to make it clear that we will not accept any compromise with our national interests. The Prime Minister should discuss the issue with Opposition leaders and evolve a national consensus on India's approach to these issues. There should be an all-party meeting."

He said the recent Supreme Court indictment of Buta Singh, naxalite attacks in Jharkhand and the Indo-US issue have established that "neither the country's honour nor the common man is safe under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime".
