Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is all set to undertake an expansion and reshuffle of portfolios in the Union Council of Ministers tomorrow (Jan 29,2006)which may witness about ten inductions mainly to fill the vacancies.
Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh is being strongly tipped to get plum External Affairs portfolio vacated by K Natwar Singh in the wake of the Volcker controversy.
The probable include Kerala strongman Vayalar Ravi, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Motilal Vora. Shibu Soren, who quit the Union Cabinet in March last year after becoming Jharkhand Chief Minister, may stage a comeback.
Other names doing the rounds are former UPCC President Salman Khurshid, former Orissa Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang and G K Vasan, TNCC president and son of late Congress veteran G K Moopanar.
There is also speculation that former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed may find a berth at the Centre.
The Prime Minister today held hectic consultations with Congress President Sonia Gandhi which lasted over four hours apparently giving finishing touches to the much-speculated exercise deferred several times due to a variety of reasons.
