AMU greets setting up of Minority Affairs Ministry

Aligarh: Welcoming the setting up of a new ministry for Minority Affairs, the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers' Association today(Feb 4,2006) urged all political parties to come on a single platform on the issue of granting minority status to the University.

Secretary of the AMU Teachers' Association Rizwan Khan described the setting up of the ministry as a 'positive' step and expressed hope that all parties would follow a transparent policy on sensitive issues related to minorities and other under privileged sections of society.

The Association also urged all political parties to come on a single platform on the issue of granting minority status to the AMU, saying the move would be in the wider interests of Indian society.

A delegation of AMU teachers met the Minister for Minority Affairs A R Antulay yesterday.
