Jaya predicts landslide for AIADMK in state polls Saturday, February 4 2006 16:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today (Feb 4, 2006) predicted a 'landslide' for AIADMK in the coming assembly polls in the state, as the party's top policy making body authorised her to decide on electoral strategies.
She said at the AIADMK General Council Meeting that even without an alliance with other parties, the party was sure of returning to power.
"We have a formidable alliance with the people, which will pay dividends. We will also form a formidable alliance to take on the Democratic Progressive Alliance led by the DMK. DMK President M Karunanidhi, though leading a seven-party
alliance, is jittery of facing the polls," party sources quoted Jayalalithaa as saying at the meeting.
The Council authorised Jayalalithaa to decide the electoral strategy, paving the way for her to hold talks with other parties for an alliance. As of now, AIADMK remained isolated in the state's poll scenario as none of the major parties are in alliance with it.
Meanwhile, the Council elected former Assembly speaker K Kalimuthu as the party presidium chairman, a post he held before the AIADMK came to power in 2001 polls. He replaces Finance Minister C Ponniyan, who of late, has reportedly 'fallen out of grace' of the party chief.
