A high-powered business delegation from Japan which is looking at India for large foreign investment opportunities today (Feb 6,2006) met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a bid to expand its presence particularly in infrastructure sector having a potential to absorb upto 150 billion dollars in next five years.
The 73-member delegation led by CEO and Chairman of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Osamu Watanabe had an half-an-hour meeting with the Prime Minister.
Senior officials of Prime Minister's Office and Industrial Policy and Promotion were present during the meeting.
Japan has already financed the first phase of the Delhi's prestigious metro project and would be funding the second phase as well.
It has also agreed to conduct a feasibility for the ambitious Rs 22,000 crore rail freight corridor connecting Mumbai-Delhi-Kolkata.
