Karnataka: BJP issues whip to its legislators

Bangalore: Ahead of the confidence motion being moved by the Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, the BJP today (Feb 7,2006) issued whip to its 79 legislators to vote in favour of the motion.

Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, also the leader of the BJP Legislature Party (BJPLP), told reporters here a meeting of the legislature group has been called tomorrow, prior to the commencement of the legislature session.

He claimed that the new JDS-BJP government will prove its majority with the support of at least 130 to 135 members.

Yediyurappa said the Chief Minister would be expanding the ministry by February 13, but refused to indicate whether the exercise would be carried out in instalments or at one go.

To enable the Governor T N Chaturvedi deliver his address, the joint session of both houses of legislature would be called before February 20,he added.
