Charged with sedition, controversial RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin today (Feb 7,2006) suffered a fresh setback with the Patna High Court turning down his application for regular bail in connection with a case relating to seizure of stolen vehicle during a police raid on his native Pratappur house in Siwan district.
Justice Ghanshyam Prasad rejected Shahabuddin's plea for regular bail after hearing his counsel Y V Giri and Government lawyer S Dayal.
The RJD Lok Sabha member from Siwan is lodged in Bhagalpur Central jail in connection with seven criminal cases against him at present.
The Siwan police had recently chargesheeted him in six criminals cases, including sedition, on the basis of recovery of firearms of foreign make and bullets bearing the mark of Pakistan Ordnance factory during raids at his Pratappur house on April 24 last.
A separate case was also registered against Shahabuddin after police seized some stolen vehicles during the raids.
After playing hide-and-seek for several months, Shahbuddin was arrested from Delhi in November following pendency of Non bailable warrants against him in eight criminal cases.
