Scores of BJP activists heading for Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's home to protest the current demolition drive in the capital were detained by police today (Feb 6,2006).
Led by Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan, the demonstrators, who were detained at the Parliament Street police station, n, accused the Chief Minister of 'inaction' in stopping thedemolitions by MCD.
"We want Delhi government to take immediate steps to stopthis demolition and implement the Malhotra committee report," senior BJP leader Vijay Malhotra, who also participated in the demonstration, said.
Vardhan, who was also detained alongwith party activists, however, pledged to step up the anti-demolition agitation against the Delhi Government
"Today we are entering the second phase of our agitation and from now onwards we will launch a series of protests and pressurise the Sheila Dikshit government to take a decision in favour of the people," he said.
The BJP leader also warned that activists would again attempt to picket the Chief Minister if the Delhi Government did not take immediate steps to stop demolitions.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma also attacked the Dikshit Government, accusing it of deliberately delaying action to rein in MCD bulldozers.
