Wednesday, February 8 2006 12:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Srinagar: Timely detection of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, 100 kms from here, averted a major tragedy.

The IED, planted by ultras under a culvert at lower Munda, was detected by a police patrol last night, the sources said.

The bomb disposal squad defused the bomb before it could cause any damage.

Hundreds of civil and military vehicles daily ply on the highway which is the only road link between Kashmir valley and rest of the country.
