Imphal: Two suspected militants killed in ambush

Imphal: Two suspected militants of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA) were killed in an encounter with central para military forces at Ngariyan area of Manipur's Imphal East district, official sources said today (Feb 8 2006).

The encounter took place when personnel of 32nd Assam Rifles battalion acting on a tip off raided interior Ngariyan area yesterday and were fired upon by the militants.

In the exchange that followed, the two militants were killed. Later, one 9mm pistol and ten rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession. One two-wheeler used by them was handed over to Irilbung police station.

PLA is the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People's Front which has been waging an armed struggle for 'an independent Manipur,' the sources said.
