Kalam suggests Indo-Russian JV model for S Korea Wednesday, February 8 2006 10:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Seoul:
President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Feb 8 2006) suggested that India and South Korea follow the Indo-Russian joint venture model in production of Brahmos cruise missiles to develop civilian products for national and international markets.
Addressing the South Korean Parliament (National Assembly) here this morning, he said such a joint venture would be a win-win proposition for both the countries.
"What we have achieved through this (Indo-Russian) venture is the development and realisation of a world class product using the strength of technological competence and consortium of industries of partner countries," he said.
"The product being internationally competitive it is able to service a large market with availability in time and state of the art performance at reduced costs per unit," Kalam said He said this has enabled the earlier entry of the product into the world market well before a competitor could emerge.
The President said India and South Korea should jointly emulate this example and develop products for civilian application both in national and international markets. "This will lead to a win-win situation to both countries and enable availability of product at a low cost," he said.
