AIFB to debate on progress in coordination comm. Thursday, February 9 2006 13:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
All India Forward Bloc, a key parnter of the Left Front, would seriously debate the issue of continuing in the UPA-Left coordination committee in view of Mammohan Singh Government going ahead with various agenda like airport 'privatisation', deviating from the common minimum programme.
"In the party's central secretariat and central committee meeting beginning here tomorrow, we will have in-depth discussion on whether to continue in the coordination committee. There are views within the party for and against continuing in the committee," party general secretary Debabrata Biswas told sources here today (Feb 9,2006).
He said that a section of partymen felt, "We shall pull out from the coordination committee and only extend support to the Government since we are losing credibility before the people, especially when the Congress-led Government was implementing their agenda like airport privatisation, reduction in EPF interest rate despite our opposition".
"There is another view that if we stay away from the coordination committee, we will lose the opportunity to put across our views. Apart from this, we get many information by being in the committee," he said.
Stating that his party would continue to support the Manmohan Singh government, the AIFB general secretary said the Left parties were successful in stalling pension bill, banking reforms, disinvestment in Navaratna PSUs.
It was because of the Left parties that various economic and other serious issues have now come to the center stage of politics instead of Hindutva agenda of BJP, he said.
