All homeless families who are living below poverty line in Jammu and Kashmir would be provided houses under the centrally sponsored scheme 'Bharat Nirman', Minister of State for Rural Development Babu Singh has said.
An amount of Rs 26 crore has been allocated in the first phase for construction of accommodation for homeless BPL families all over the state, the minister said while chairing an officers' meeting of rural development departmenthere yesterday (Feb 8,2006).
In this connection, a survey initiated to identify the deserving families in the three regions of the state is nearing completion, he said.
The lists of homeless persons prepared according to survey should be placed before the village committees of each panchayat for their approval. These committees will thoroughly scrutinize the lists and report back to the department.
The minister said the final lists would be displayed at all block and panchayat levels by the end of February for information of the general public.
