CPI(M) warns UPA Government on Iran issue to UNSC
Friday, February 10 2006 16:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: The CPI(M) today warned the UPA Government that it would be put 'in the dock' in Parliament if it insisted on voting for a referral on the Iran issue to the UN Security Council.

"The government will be put in the dock in Parliament if it insists on voting for a referral to the Security Council," CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said at the end of the two-day Politburu meeting here. (

"The Manmohan Singh government has refused to heed public opinion (on the Iran issue) and the left parties have decided to demand a debate in the house ahead of the March six IAEA Board meeting," Karat said.

Karat also hinted at mobilising support from other parties, both within UPA and outside, to create a pressure group on various issues.

"The party (CPI(M) should actively seek support of other political parties within and outside the UPA and forge a joint platform on issues such as Iran and FDI in retail," he said.
