Rajnath Singh rejects RSS idea of any pact with SP Saturday, February 11 2006 15:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
In a public rejection of the RSS suggestion for an alliance with the Samajwadi Party, the BJP today (Feb 11 2006) ruled out any poll pact in Uttar Pradesh with any grouping outside the NDA but kept partnership options open for other states where elections are due this year.
"We cannot even dream of having an alliance with the Samajwadi Party," BJP chief Rajnath Singh told sources here.
"The question does not arise to have such a pact with the SP." His comments came in the wake of RSS organ 'Organiser' suggesting the BJP can try out "a certain degree of adventurism" with the SP that it claimed was in 'frantic search' of alliance partners.
Singh accused both UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's party and the Left of fooling voters alike with what he called their hollow anti-Congress rhetoric.
"In a healthy democracy, no party should fool voters like both the Left and the SP are doing," the BJP chief said, referring to the opposition of the two parties, which support the Central coalition Government, to India's Iran vote. Also, he ruled out any alliance with the BSP either in UP, where elections are due next year.
"There is absolutely no possibility of any alliance, both before and after elections, with any grouping outside the NDA, be it the SP, the BSP or the Congress," he said.
The BJP chief, however, indicated his party was exploring alliance possibilities with Assam's AGP for elections in the northeast state due this year. "Nothing can be ruled out for other states," he remarked when asked whether the party would forge alliance with the AGP.
