Sonia directs CM and DPCC chief to work together Saturday, February 11 2006 11:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
With the spat between Delhi Congress and the Chief Minister showing no signs of relenting, party president Sonia Gandhi today (Feb 11 2006) sought to rein in the local Congress chief Rambabu Sharma and Sheila Dikshit, asking them to work in tandem.
Against the backdrop of intra-party bickerings over the demolition drive, Gandhi held over two-hour-long meeting with Dikshit and her known-detractor Sharma and asked both of them to "stop criticising each other and work together" to resolve the problems faced by the people of the national capital, party sources said.
Gandhi is understood to have told the DPCC Chief "not to cross limits of constructive criticism" and directed him to popularise the developmental programmes implemented by the Government rather than criticising it, they said.
She also directed the Chief Minister to take the party unit into confidence before taking on key policy matters and reviewed the decisions taken by the Coordination Committee, formed late last year to form better understanding between the Government and the party, the sources said.
She also expressed 'concern' over the situation arising out of the drive to remove illegal constructions in the national capital, AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot, who also attended the meeting, later told sources.
"When a party comes to power, there are bound to be differences between the organisation and the Government. It is also here. But we will have to sit and talk to sort out all the issues," he said.
