'PMO not involved with work of Sachar Committee'

New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today (Feb 13 2006) said it has not been involved with the work of the Rajinder Sachar Committee constituted by it to prepare a report on the status of Muslims in India.

"After having constituted the Committee, the Prime Minister's Office has not been involved with the work of the Committee," PM's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement here.

He said a controversy has been sought to be created in the media pertaining to the work of the seven-member Committee constituted by the PMO on March 9, 2005 and headed by Justice Sachar. It has to present its report within 15 months.

The PMO release also gave the terms of reference of the committee to dismiss media reports.
