Geelani dismissive of holding talks on Kashmir issue Tuesday, February 14 2006 18:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Srinagar:
A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh invited the JKLF for talks on Kashmir, hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani today (Feb 14,2006) said holding talks with leaders of "lanes and bylanes" would not help in resolving the issue.
"We want to explain to the rulers of India that holding talks with leaders of lanes and bylanes will not solve the Kashmir issue," Hurriyat said in a statement here.
Similar exercise was conducted in 1975 when Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah entered into an accord with the centre but it failed to resolve the issue.
The ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir demands a sincere effort for resolving this long pending issue, the statement said.
"The best and easy way to resolve the issue is to hold a plebiscite under international supervision which will increase the prestige of India in the community of nations," it said.
JKLF is the second organisation outside Hurriyat to be invited for talks. Earlier, Sajjad Ghani Lone of Peoples Conference had first round of talks with the Prime Minister last month.
