CPI(M) to demand recall of Mulford, says Karat Sunday, February 19 2006 10:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Madurai:
The CPI(M) would demand the recall of American Ambassador David Mulford during the current Parliament session, in protest against his letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, party general secretary Prakash Karat said here yesterday (Feb 18,2006)night.
Addressing the party's state special political conference, he said Mulford's letter to Buddhadeb, stating that his reported remark against US President George Bush that he was the leader of the most organised pack of killers would be detrimental to making West Bengal attractive to US investors, amounted to interfering in India's internal affairs.
Karat said "India was not a colony, nor Mulford the 'viceroy' of USA". The Left had already decided to organize demonstrations during the visit of the US President on March 2, demanding that he go back.
"But before Bush goes back, we want Mulford to go back," he said.
