DMK prepared to sacrifice some seats for allies Tuesday, February 21 2006 15:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Tiruchirappalli:
The DMK was prepared to sacrifice some seats to accomodate its allies for the coming assembly polls, its president M Karunanidhi said today (Feb 21,2006).
"We will reduce our share, and sacrifice for others," he told reporters here.
Indicating that it would be difficult to include All India Forward Bloc and Dalit Panthers of India, which had expressed a desire to join the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance, he said, "They have expressed their desire, but there are not enough seats."
He said if the PMK wanted to share some seats with the DPI, "It is that party's wish. We will not ask about it".
He said the MDMK leader Vaiko would be meeting him in Chennai tomorrow.
On Vaiko 'rejecting' Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's remarks that the AIADMK's alliance doors were open, Karunanidhi said, "Vaiko did not enter that door because he should not be mistaken for the proverbial 'dog entering an open house'".
He also ruled out Deputy Chief Ministership, if the DPA was voted to power in the state.
"There will be only Deputy Speaker, no Deputy CM" he said.
He was also confident that the Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre would complete its full term and would not be destabilised by the left. "I am also a leftist" he said.
