Drug samples test confirms presence of human parts
Wednesday, February 22 2006 14:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Government today (Feb 22 2006) acknowledged in Lok Sabha that one test of ayurvedic drug samples, provided by CPI(M) MP Brinda Karat from a known manufacturing firm, had confirmed the presence of human parts while another of animal remains.

However, test of one sample did not confirm existence of such substances, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said during Question Hour.

"Regarding one of the medicines, one of the laboratories confirmed presence of DNA of human species but the other laboratory has not confirmed the same. Regarding the other medicine, neither of the laboratories found DNA of any human origin," he said adding a third sample was confirmed containing animal organ.

"We have sent reports to the Uttaranchal government and also further information sought by them. The state government is the competent authority to enquire into the matter further and take necessary action," he said in reply to a series of questions on the matter.

The CPI(M) member had submitted two samples of medicines for epilepsy and virility on which several tests, including DNA, were conducted by reputed national laboratories in Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata, he said.
