Uproar in LS over defreezing: Quattrochhi issue
Wednesday, February 22 2006 12:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Lok Sabha today (Feb 22 2006) witnessed an uproar over defreezing of bank accounts of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrochhi with the BJP-led Opposition demanding suspension of Question Hour to take up the issue.

Soon after the House met, BJP Deputy Leader V K Malhotra raised the issue alleging it involved corruption at higher level in the ruling Congress.

This was stoutly opposed by treasury benches leading to noisy scenes. Despite Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's assurance to members that he would allow them to raise the matter later, the opposition did not relent.

The Speaker later adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
