PMK to come out of DPA, for alternative front: DPI
Thursday, February 23 2006 14:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Dejected at DMK chief M Karunanidhi's 'efforts to create a rift' between the parties, Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) today(Feb 23,2006) asked Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) to come out of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) to lead an 'alternative front'.

The DPI said it was even ready to extend support to PMK alone in the polls if it was not in a position to come out of the alliance.

"We are even prepared to refrain from contesting the polls and extend support to the PMK alone. We will not contest in other places. This is only to preserve the relationship between the DPI and PMK," party leader Thirumavalavan said.

Accusing the Karunanidhi of trying to creating a rift between PMK and DPI by his remarks that he had no objection if the former allotted some seats from its quota to DPI, he said Karunanidhi had undermined the strength of both the parties.

"If PMK did not seek DPI's support, then the party would explore possibilities of entering into an alliance with other parties," he said.

Asked whether the AIADMK had invited the party for alliance talks, he replied in the negative.

The main goal of the party during the coming polls was to get recognition from the Election Commission of India, he said.
