LS adjourns due to no action on L K Advani by CBI
Thursday, February 23 2006 11:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Irked over a report claiming that the PMO had asked CBI to explain why no action was taken against Leader of Opposition L K Advani in the Babri Masjid demolition case, angry BJP members today (Feb 23,2006) created a furore in Lok Sabha forcing its adjournment for half an hour.

As soon as the house assembled, the opposition members vociferously demanded resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and trooped into the well.

The BJP members waved newspapers carrying reports that alleged the PMO had sought a written explanation from CBI as to why action was not taken Advani. Treasury benches also shouted back at the Opposition.

CPM members were also on their feet demanding suspension of Question Hour. However, the demand could not be heard in the din.

"On one hand, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee yesterday (Feb 22,2006) claimed that Government did not interfere in CBI's functioning with regard to defreezing of accounts of Ottavio Quattrocchi, on the other hand it is trying to implicate Advani through CBI," BJP Deputy Leader, V K Malhotra said.

The BJP members shouted slogans against UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and demanded Prime Minister's resignation.

As the opposition refused to relent, deputy speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal adjourned the House till 1130 hours.
