RS defers as BJP protests on PMO's interference Thursday, February 23 2006 12:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The PMO's alleged interference in the functioning of CBI rocked the Rajya Sabha today (Feb 23,2006) as voiceferous BJP members demanded an explanation from the government over the issue leading to the adjournment of the House twice before lunch.
Soon after the House assembled, slogan shouting BJP members trooped into the well citing a news report which claimed that the PMO had asked CBI to explain why no action was taken against Leader of Opposition L K Advani in the Babri Masjid demolition case.
Disrupting the Question Hour, Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh sought clarification from the Government over the issue.
This sparked off noisy scenes leading to adjournment of the House for about 40 minutes. The House reassembled at noon only to be adjourned again till 1400 hours.
Raising slogans like 'stop misuse of CBI', the BJP members demanded immediate explanation and when the members refused to heed the repeated plea for order, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan adjourned the House after listed papers were
tabled.
