University of Wolverhampton opens South Asia office Thursday, February 23 2006 14:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Facilitating easier access to higher education in Britain, University of Wolverhampton has opened a South Asia Regional Office here to assist students from the region aspiring to pursue studies at its campus.
Terming the University as the "greatest site of multiculturalism," varsity Chancellor Lord Swraj Paul said the launching of the regional office was aimed at bringing more Indian boys and girls to Wolverhampton.
Noting that Indians value education the most, he said the University has innovative teaching, hi-tech learning centres and one of the best schools for sports.
Paul, the Chairman of the UK-based Caparo Group, said he expects more Indians, with an eye on the 2012 London Olympics, would be interested in the Sports Centre at the university.
The university also maintains excellent quality standards and infrastructure and the Walsall Sport Centre, being chosen as an official site for the London Olympics 2012, is a testimony to it.
Noting that the UK offers 'very little' scholarships to students, Britain's leading Parliamentarian said he had raised the issue with the Indian government and also offered 125 million pounds for a fund to help those willing to pursue higher studies in UK.
The South Asia Regional Office of the University will assist students from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in a variety of ways including providing information about courses, admission formalities, facilitating accommodation, help in visa application and also give financial advice.
The regional office in Delhi is the third such centre set up by the University overseas after Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
