CPI National Executive begins 2-day meet on plans Sunday, February 26 2006 10:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The CPI yesterday (Feb 25,2006) began a two-day meeting to review the UPA Government's policies as well as prepare its tactics for the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
The party's National Executive meeting follows expression of sharp differences between the Left parties and the ruling UPA coalition on major issues like the strike against privatisation of Mumbai and Delhi airports, opening up of retail trade to FDI, the Iran nuclear issue and the Indo-US nuclear agreement.
On the electoral front, the Left parties have already announced their seat-sharing arrangement in West Bengal and were working on it in Kerala.
The CPI is likely to finalise its approach on the assembly polls in Assam, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry at this meeting.
The party would also decide on the candidate for the biennial elections to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
