Flutter in Parliament over Amar Singh CD issue Monday, February 27 2006 14:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Amar Singh CD issue today (Feb 27 2006) created a flutter in both Houses of Parliament with Government saying the Home Ministry is examining its authenticity and whatever action is necessary will be taken.
"The Home Ministry is examining the authenticity of the CD. Whatever as per law if any action is required, it will be taken," Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee responded after BSP members stormed the well twice and demanded that immediate inquiry be initiated as the CD allegedly contained telephonic talks between SP leader Amar Singh and UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and purportedly referred to "buying" of judges and also transfer of a judge if he was not willing to grant favour.
The issue also figured in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour with BSP member Satish Chandra Misra raising it, sparking heated exchanges with ruling party members.
Responding to the issue, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the Delhi Police had collected information and prepared a chargesheet and filed it in the court, adding the matter is sub judice.
The Home Ministry has received a copy of the CD and "whatever is necessary will be done and whatever is not necessary will not be done," Patil said.
